About Me

Hello! My name is Zoe, and I'm an aspiring historian, castle lover and freelance writer from Wales.

I studied for my BA in History and MA in Cultural History at the University of Liverpool, and am currently working on my PhD proposal (fingers crossed - coming up with an idea is hard!)

I have a keen interest in many areas of history, including gender studies, social movements, civil rights, crime, and how humans come to terms with death. It's hard to pinpoint a single niche - I love learning about people, no matter what era or background they come from!

Outside of academia I've enjoyed taking part in various historical volunteer projects. When travelling in Peru I was lucky to work with professional archaeologists and other volunteers at Incan dig sites where we mapped, excavated, conducted maintenance, discovered new sites and classified the artefacts that were found.

Furthermore, during lockdown I took part in a research project in Aberystwyth called 'People's Voices in a People's War', where I researched and wrote articles about the town during the Second World War which will be published in a collection of research essays.

Having recently moved to Llandudno, I have joined a team of volunteers at the local museum and look forward to gaining valuable experience handling exhibits and writing about the collections. I also can't wait to continue my mission to visit as many castles and historical sites as possible, work on my writing and improve my pottery skills!

Hopefully this page will become a little collection of articles as I continue to grow and gather writing experience - subscribe if you feel like coming along for the ride!
